Postcard from Algarve, Portugal ...

Many thanks Luis for this lovely postcard, sent from Albufeira's Post Office ;-) It took 6 days to arrive in Singapore.

It is really interesting to see the posting of Post Offices Appointments in Luis's blog, at least for me to know that the postcard that i'm having now actually comes from there ... Also, it's great to know the tourist paradise of Algarve, in the Southmost region of mainland Portugal.

Many thanks Xu Wei for this very nice postcard, sent from Old Post Office (老年邮局), in Suzhou, China, on Mid-Autumn Festival ;-))) The special postmark (中秋节连体戳) of Mid-Autumn Festival from Old Post Office was fantastic as it came with a Chinese poem, written by Wen Zheng Ming (1470-1559, Ming Dynasty). I'm really interested to know how does the Old Post Office in Suzhou look like ...

My first FDC from Sweden ...

Swedish stamps are one of my favourite stamps with simple but creative designs. Many thanks Lars-Erik Carlsson for this nice cover with first day cancellation sent from Falkenberg, in the South of Sweden ;-) Featuring on the stamp is Crispbread and Västerbotten Cheese. The cover took 7 days to arrive in Singapore!

Mauritian rupee ...

The rupee (ISO 4217 code: MUR) is the currency of Mauritius. It is divided into 100 cents. The rupee was chosen due to the massive inflow of Indian rupees following Indian immigration to Mauritius.

In 1987, a new series of coins was introduced which, for the first time, did not feature the portrait of the monarch (Mauritius did not become a republic until 1992) but that of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam.

Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam (शिवसागर रामगुलाम) was the Prime Minister of Mauritius from 1968 until 1982. He is known as the "Father of the Nation". As decolonisation swept the third world, he led his country to independence from the United Kingdom in 1968. He was Governor General from 1983 until his death in 1985.
